Gustavo Suárez Pertierra, en su estimulante artículo Ambiciones globales para España, publicado el pasado lunes 14 de abril, señalaba como ejemplo de la "capacidad de atracción" de España en el mundo, el hecho de que "somos el segundo país que más jóvenes Erasmus recibe de toda Europa".

Como director del Organismo Autónomo Programas Educativos Europeos, encargado de la gestión de Erasmus, quiero rectificar a mi respetado amigo Gustavo, señalando que España no es el segundo, sino el primer país que más jóvenes Erasmus recibe -27.000 al año-, un 25% más que el segundo país receptor, que es Francia. Pero no sólo eso; este año 2008, es España el país que más fondos europeos va a recibir para la movilidad de estudiantes Erasmus, más que Alemania, que nos dobla en población.
En Erasmus no somos "potencia intermedia", sino primera potencia, y eso es consecuencia de nuestra "capacidad de atracción" producida en este caso por el excelente trabajo de nuestras universidades. Para una vez que somos primera potencia, digámoslo alto y claro.
